Welcome to São Francisco Farm
The São Francisco Farm, affix Flamma, is located in the city of Ijaci, south of the Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The registered Holstein herd is owned by Marcos Neves Pereira and Renata Apocalypse Nogueira Pereira. The herd has about 50 cows housed in a sand bedded tie stall. Young animals are housed in a free stall, since the limitation in land for forage production obligate us to intensify the use of area. The Better Nature Research Center is located in the farm, in partnership with the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA) and with the Minas Gerais Agricultural Research Enterprise (Epamig). Research focus has been on the evaluation of the response in digestibility and performance of dairy cows to novel feeding strategies. Animal production students from UFLA and from other research and teaching institutions, national and international, have used the farm in the form of internships and for the conduction of their undergraduate and graduate research.
